# Create a new cart item

**POST /2026-3/carts/{cartId}/items**

Adds a new item to the specified cart, allowing the user to configure and check out a product.

### Path parameters

- **cartId** (string(uuid))
  The unique identifier of the cart to add the item to.

- **productId** (string(uuid))
  The unique identifier of the product to be added to the cart.

The cart item has been successfully created.

### 400
The request parameters are missing or invalid.

### 401
Client authentication failed.

Missing one or more required scopes.

The specified cart or product was not found.

The cart has reached its maximum number of items.
